A high-pressure ball valve, or high-pressure valve, is a ball valve made for hydraulic pressures. It is used to shut off a hydraulic line during service or testing, or to direct the same pump alternately to two actuators. The valves are installed directly in the line with female threads, tube connections for DIN 2353 fittings or SAE flanges, and models with an ISO 5211 mounting can be fitted with a pneumatic or electric actuator. Depending on the model and size, the operating pressure is 350–500 bar, and for corrosive conditions there are AISI 316 stainless steel models.
A 2-way valve shuts off the line, a 3-way valve directs the flow between two lines, and the L or T bore determines which ports are connected. 4-way valves have a closed or open centre position, and with a 6-way valve one pair of lines is directed to two actuators. A needle valve is used to shut off measuring and test connections and for precise control of small flows.
A ball valve is not a throttle valve, so choose a flow control valve to control cylinder speed.
