A fuel pump, or refuelling pump, transfers diesel from a tank, drum or container to the tank of a machine or vehicle. This category includes electric pumps at 12 V, 24 V and 230 V, ready-made dispensing units with pump, hose and nozzle, some with a mechanical meter, as well as hand-operated rotary pumps and piston pumps. Selection starts from the fuel, the required flow rate in litres per minute and the power source.
The pump is installed between the tank and the delivery hose. Vane pumps are self-priming, and a foot valve increases the suction lift. Drum pumps are attached to the drum lid and hand pumps to the 2" opening of the drum. Some pumps detect dry running and switch off when the tank is full.
Most diesel pumps are not suitable for petrol. For petrol, kerosene and diesel in explosive atmospheres, choose an ATEX II 2 G approved pump, and for AdBlue, a urea pump.
