A/AVI - Shaft seal, single lip
Single-lip radial shaft seal to DIN 3760 / ISO 6194-1, type A: rubber-covered outer diameter, steel insert and spring-loaded sealing lip without dust lip. Materials NBR (A series) and FPM (AVI series). Sizes d x D x b for 8–80 mm shafts.
- Dimensions: d = shaft diameter, D = housing bore diameter, b = seal width
- The rubber-covered outer diameter seals well even in rougher or thermally expanding bores and in light-alloy housings
- NBR (nitrile rubber, A): operating temperature approx. −40…+100 °C (short term +120 °C); mineral-based hydraulic and gear oils and greases
- FPM (fluoroelastomer, AVI): operating temperature approx. −20…+200 °C; better resistance to hot oils and chemicals
- For unpressurised applications: pressure difference max. 0.5 bar; permissible circumferential speed depends on shaft size (NBR typically 8–12 m/s, FPM higher)
- The single-lip seal suits clean conditions; for dirty environments choose the AS type with dust lip
- Shaft: tolerance h11, hardness 45–60 HRC, surface roughness Ra 0.2–0.8 µm (plunge ground, no lead); housing bore: tolerance H8
- Fitting: sealing lip and spring towards the medium
- Equivalent type designations include A, BA, SC and WA
